20 Moroccan beaches awarded the Blue Flag label in 2012

In recognition of the actions implemented by the municipalities, relevant administrations and the FM6E’s economic partners towards meeting the international standards, the Blue Flag will fly this summer at the 20 following beaches: Mdiq; Fnideq; Achakar; Sol (Tangier-Asilah); Ba-kacem (Tangier-Asilah); Skhirat; Bouznika; Ain Diab; Madame Choual (Ain Diab Extension); Sidi Rahal; Haouzia; Sidi Bouzid; Oualidia; Safi; Souiria lkdima (Safi); Essaouira; Imintourga (Mirleft); Aglou sidi moussa (Tiznit); Foum Loued (Laayoune); and Oum Labouir (Dakhla).

In 2012, a second beach in the southern region was labeled, namely Oum Labouir in Dakhla.

Obtaining the Blue Flag depends on beach development and management compliance with criteria on the general environment, water management, waste management and environmental education.

The FM6E has managed this program since 2002, with support from the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the World Tourism Organization (WTO), and the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT). It has noticeably evolved thanks to assistance from progress by the national Clean Beaches program including the Lalla Hasnaa Awards encouraging the best practices observed at the program beaches.

The ultimate goal is to label a maximum number of beaches to provide our seaside heritage with the highest international standards.
