May 19, 2014 : 27 BLUE FLAG BEACHES labelled Blue Flag IN 2014

altThe Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection, chaired by HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa, and the International Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) discerned 27 beaches the Blue Flag label from the 79 enrolled this year in the national program Clean Beaches.

The Blue Flag is an international eco-label awarding beaches that comply with standards about the quality of bathing water, environment and development, waste management and environmental education.

In 2014, the beaches that will raise the Blue Flag are spread throughout the Moroccan coast.

2. Tiznit : Aglou Sidi moussa ;

3. Nador: Arekmane;

4. Asilah;

5. Tanger-Asilah : Ba-kacem;

6. Bouznika;

7. El-Jadida;

8. Dakhla : El Moussafir

9. Essaouira;

10. Fnideq;

11. Laâyoune : Foum oued;

12. El Jadida : Haouzia ;

13. Mirleft : Imintourga ;

14. Mdiq ; 15. Casablanca : Ain Diab Extension (Mme Choual);

16. Oualidia ;

17. Tétouan: Oued Laou

18. Dakhla : Oum labouir

19. Safi;

20. Saidia Med (Station touristique de Saidia),

21. Sidi Rahal chatii ;

22. Tanger - Asilah : Sol;

23. Safi : Souiria lkdima;

24. Saidia ;

25. Safi : Cap Beddouza ;

26. Fahs Anjra: Ksar Al Mazaj;

27. Larache : Ras Rmel

The Blue Flag rewards the efforts of municipalities, administrations and economic partners of the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection.

Since 2002, this program managed by the Foundation, is supported by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) program, and the Moroccan National Office of Tourism (ONMT). Concerned with some beaches at the beginning, it covers now 79 beaches among the most popular in the country, and aims to expand eventually to all the beaches of the Kingdom, in order that their cleanliness and quality meet the highest international standards.

Beaches displaying the Blue Flag label are part of the beaches participating in the Lalla Hasnaa Sustainable Coast Awards, which are presented every two years. It is open to all those who help to protect the national coastal area: NGOs, institutions, local authorities, economic operators, schoolchildren, students, researchers, experts, etc..

Lalla Hasnaa Sustainable Coast Awards propose five categories:

• Clean beaches Trophies;

• Sharing and living environment Trophies;

• Protection and enhancement of natural heritage Trophies;

• Education and Youth Trophies;

• Social and Environmental Responsibility Trophies;
