4. Planning and Management.

Members of a national committee, chaired by the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection, verify compliance with the Blue Flag label criteria throughout the summer.

The Blue Flag was implemented in Morocco in 2005 under the guidance of Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa, President of the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection, who has mobilized public, private, and civil society partners around this project in order improve the level of clean beaches to international standards, and contribute to the development of coastal tourism in the Kingdom.

The number of flags awarded has rapidly evolved from 2 beaches in 2005 to 20 beaches in the 2011 summer season.

This label is internationally managed by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), a network of NGOs from 60 countries, which aims to promote and implement environmental awareness and education.

For the 2010 edition, 3012 beaches in 41 countries were awarded this eco-label (including Europe, Canada, the Caribbean, New Zealand, South Africa, Tunisia, Jordan and Morocco).
