The Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection and the Ministry of Education, in collaboration with partners and with support from the French Global Environment Fund and the French Development Agency, organized an information and training workshop for principals from 24 schools and Eco-Schools program coordinators' from the Nador province on Wednesday, March 24, 2010 in Nador.

This workshop is part of the actions in which Her Royal Highness The Princess Lalla Hasnaa, President of the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection, has a special interest. It aims to promote environmental education and sustainable development through active student participation in order to strengthen ecological behavior and promote the sustainable management of natural resources. To this end, the workshop will focus on various Eco-Schools training program topics on: water and energy conservation, proper waste management, preservation of the Nador lagoon heritage, youth awareness for environmental respect, and other Eco-schools’ success stories.

An international environmental education program, Eco-school is a label awarded to elementary schools and secondary schools that are taking action for the environment. In volunteer schools, students, teachers, management and staff work successively on five priority themes: food, biodiversity, waste, water and energy. As part of the lessons and in partnership with local elected officials, community groups and parents conduct diagnostics that lead to concrete achievements to improve environmental management within their school.

The different Eco-schools in the Kingdom that participate in the project also form an exchange network of experiences and best practices to benefit from initiatives undertaken by others, under the strategic partnership between the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection and the Ministry of Education.
