According to the vision and direction of HER ROYAL HIGHNESS THE PRINCESS LALLA HASNAA, President of the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection, the Foundation held a training and information workshop on strengthening the capacity of environmental upgrading of the beaches on Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at the Hotel Tour Hassan in Rabat, which gathered over 100 executives in charge of monitoring the Clean Beaches program, locally elected representatives, local authorities, concerned public entities, and sponsors.

For the 2008 edition, the Foundation invited the Mayor of the City of Marseille to bring together partners on different approaches and actions for the preparation and management of the beach season in Marseille, where around 2 million people visit its beaches each year.

Also, best lessons learned from experiences in France (the National Association of Elected Representatives of the Coast) on concessions for certain activities and the accountability of elected officials in beach management will better guide the efforts of municipalities towards greater efficiency in this area.

Furthermore, the workshop presented the steps to improve the analysis and display of bathing water quality, and strengthen the rescue coordination on beaches.

The workshop aim of the debates and exchanges between experts was to bring Moroccan beaches to Blue Flag label international standards.
