Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa, Chairperson of the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Protection of the Environment, chaired at the Foundation’s headquarters in Rabat the Lalla Hasnaa "Clean Beaches 2002” trophies ceremony in the presence of Mr. Driss JETTOU, Minister of Interior, Zoulikha NASRI, Adviser to His Majesty the King, Mr. Lhoucine TIJANI, Deputy Chairman of the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Protection of the Environment,, Mr. Hassan CHAMI, President of the General Confederation of Moroccan Employers, Mr. Mustapha SAHEL, Wali of Rabat-Salé-Zemmour-Zaïr, Mr. Hassan KACIMI, Secretary General at the Tourism Department in the Ministry of Economy, Finance, Privatization and Tourism, Mr. Ahmed BOUHOULI, Secretary General at the Environmental Department at the Ministry in charge of Land Management, Urban Planning, Housing and Environment, and members of the Foundation Board of Directors.

 

The "Clean Beaches" endeavor active for four (4) years, chaired by Her Royal Highness constitute an entirely new dimension, thanks to the relocation of the European Blue Flag in Morocco after the Foundation’s accession to FEE whose criteria adopted by the Foundation in partnership with the Communes and Sponsors, will allow our beaches to reach European standards and therefore correspond to government policy aiming at the development of national seaside tourism.

The "Clean Beaches" action was conducted by the Foundation, in collaboration with the Communes with the active support of public and private national enterprises, whose commitment has helped significantly to improve the quality of services offered to holidaymakers.

Selection of the Jury set up by the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Protection of the Environment, was based on a set of criteria related to development, management, safety, information and public awareness, and the quality of partnership between the Commune and the Sponsor.

After the assessment, while recognizing the commendable efforts made by everyone and the commitment by permanent staff members and sponsors, for 2002 the Jury selected three beaches:

 

-Lalla Hasnaa-Prize for 2002: Agadir Beach, awarded to the City of Agadir and Royal Air Maroc;
-Partnership Award for 2002: El Haouzia Beach, awarded to the Town of El Haouzia and Banque Centrale Populaire;
-Encouragement Prize for 2002: Tangier beach, awarded to the City of Tangier and Maroc Telecom.

Moreover, also at the Foundation headquarters, Her Royal Highness presided over the signing ceremony of two partnership agreements with the Cement Manufacturers Federation and Barid Al Maghrib, which ensure financial support to the Foundation by conducting an extensive outreach and environmental education program in the media.

These agreements also provide sponsorship by the Foundation for the actions of the Cement Manufactueres Federation and Barid Al Maghrib for Environmental Protection, in partnership with the Communes.
These agreements have been signed for period of two (2) years and are renewable.

The ceremony was attended by Mr. Hassan CHAMI, President of CGEM, Mr. Mohamed CHAIB, CEO of Ciments du Maroc and Chairman of the Professional Association of Cement Manufacturers, Mr. Jean Marie SHMITZ, Chief Executive Officer of Lafarge Maroc Mr. Youssef ENNADIFI, CEO of Holcim Maroc, Mr. Brahim LARAQUI, Managing Director General of Asment Témara, and Mr. Mohamed WAKRIM, Director General of Barid Al Maghrib.
