The Blue Flag rewards the efforts of municipalities, administrations and economic partners of the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection.
Since 2002, this program managed by the Foundation, is supported by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) program, and the Moroccan National Office of Tourism (ONMT). Concerned with some beaches at the beginning, it covers now 79 beaches among the most popular in the country, and aims to expand eventually to all the beaches of the Kingdom, in order that their cleanliness and quality meet the highest international standards.
Beaches displaying the Blue Flag label are part of the beaches participating in the Lalla Hasnaa Sustainable Coast Awards, which are presented every two years. It is open to all those who help to protect the national coastal area: NGOs, institutions, local authorities, economic operators, schoolchildren, students, researchers, experts, etc..
Lalla Hasnaa Sustainable Coast Awards propose five categories:
• Clean beaches Trophies;
• Sharing and living environment Trophies;
• Protection and enhancement of natural heritage Trophies;
• Education and Youth Trophies;
• Social and Environmental Responsibility Trophies;
