Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa Participates in the High-Level Segment of the IUCN World Conservation Congress – Abu Dhabi, 9 October 2025

Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa, President of the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection, took part in the High-Level Segment of the World Conservation Congress organized by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in Abu Dhabi.

This major global event brought together Heads of State, ministers, leaders of international organizations, and experts from all continents, united by their commitment to protecting nature, combating climate change, and advancing sustainable development.

A Call for Collective Action for Nature and Future Generations

Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa emphasized that preserving ecosystems and fostering education for sustainable development are inseparable pillars of a single ambition: building a better future founded on knowledge, responsibility, and solidarity.

Her Royal Highness underscored that the success of any environmental policy depends on citizen participation—especially the engagement of local communities and vulnerable populations. Empowering these communities and supporting their conservation efforts is essential to achieving a fair and inclusive ecological transition.

By placing people at the heart of sustainability, Her Royal Highness reminded participants that the environment is not an isolated sector but a shared living space where the bonds between nature, culture, and society are interwoven.

Youth at the Heart of Change

Her Royal Highness placed youth at the center of Her message, highlighting that young people embody both the energy of the present and the promise of the future.

Through the Eco-Schools and Young Reporters for the Environment programs, the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection has been encouraging youth engagement for over twenty years. These initiatives offer students and pupils opportunities to take concrete action for their environment, develop critical thinking skills, and become changemakers within their schools, communities, and territories.

Through their dynamism and creativity, these young people help build a collective ecological consciousness—one that carries hope and innovation for the future of Morocco and Africa.

Flagship Actions for Inclusive Sustainability

In Her address, Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa highlighted several emblematic initiatives of the Foundation that reflect its spirit of inclusion and co-construction.

The B7ar Bla Plastic campaign, launched in 2019, reflects the determination to mobilize citizens, local authorities, businesses, and associations around a common goal: reducing plastic pollution and protecting Morocco’s coastline. This initiative, which has united thousands of volunteers and public and private actors, has helped restore life and beauty to the Kingdom’s beaches.

In Marrakech, the Palm Grove Preservation and Development Program represents another strong example of this integrated approach, linking ecosystem preservation with cultural heritage valorization and local development. By replanting palm trees, optimizing water management, and supporting local initiatives, the Foundation is helping restore this emblematic site’s ecological balance and cultural identity.

In the wetlands of Marchica, Oued Eddahab, and Dakhla, the Foundation has supported rehabilitation projects in partnership with local authorities, researchers, and associations. These initiatives demonstrate that biodiversity restoration and community resilience are inseparable when built upon cooperation, participation, and awareness.

Innovation, Equity, and Solidarity

Her Royal Highness underlined the decisive role of new technologies and artificial intelligence in understanding and managing ecosystems—while stressing the importance of equitable access to these tools. Innovation, She noted, must serve the common good, foster solidarity between territories, and enable knowledge-sharing.

Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa concluded Her address with a heartfelt call for collective responsibility:

« Education, mobilization, innovation, and youth : these are our levers to transform this Vision into tangible reality. Together, let us make this Congress not only. a moment of reflection, but a true catalyst for action »
