She highlighted a number of flagship projects illustrating the great achievements that the Kingdom, under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, has realized with determination and constancy in preserving the environment, an essential basis for sustainable development.

Benkhadra presented seven projects aimed at protecting the environment in various fields.

The first project, presented by Minister of Education, Ahmed Akhchichine, relates to the generalization of the Eco-school. The aim of this project is to use education and training as actor and finality of development.

Minister of Industry, Trade and new Technologies, Ahmed Chami presented the second project, which provides for progressively eradicating plastic bags and replacing them by other environment-friendly products.

Another project concerning the implantation of artificial reefs to protect marine ecosystems was presented by Director of the National Institute and Halieutic research, Mostapfa Fayek pertains to rehabilitating the degraded marine habitat through the generalization of the local fish wealth decimated by irresponsible fishing practices.

For their part, Director of Forestry Development, Hammou Bouzemmouri and Director of Nature protection presented two projects relating to the fight against desertification in the region of Chaouia-Ouardigha and Laayoune respectively. They both aim to repair the serious damage of desertification caused by forest over-exploitation.

As for the project concerning the piscicultural development in dam reserves, which was presented by Endichi, it seeks to fight dam eutrophication and the proliferation of disease-carrying insects.

Minister Benkhadra presented the Bouregreg biogas-Energy project, which aims to exploit methane gas emitted by the rehabilitated dump of Oulja to generate clean energy.

Her Royal Highness the Prince Moulay Rachid and Her Royal Highness the Princess Lalla Hasnaa chaired the signing ceremonies of five conventions in the field of environment protection.
