Enhancing Education for Sustainable Development: Launch of Regional Workshops for the Training and Capacity Building of the Educational Community for the 2024-2025 School Year

The regional workshops organized by the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection, chaired by Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa, aim to raise awareness and train educational communities within the framework of the 2024-2025 edition of its flagship programs for Education for Sustainable Development: the Eco-Schools Program and Young Reporters for the Environment (YRE). In alignment with the theme of the national workshop, “Innovation and Digitalization: Inspiring Change in Education for Sustainable Development,” these workshops will explore the challenges of innovation and digitalization in Education for Sustainable Development. Held in collaboration with the Ministry of National Education, Preschool, and Sports, the workshops will take place across the 12 Regional Education and Training Academies in Morocco.

The regional workshops were launched on November 20th, 2024, in the Fès-Meknès and Oriental regions. These sessions, spread over several days, will continue across all regional academies until January 10th, 2025, in the southern regions of the Kingdom, in the Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra and Dakhla-Oued Eddahab regions.

These three-day workshops are designed to build the capacity of the educational communities involved in the Eco-Schools, Young Reporters for the Environment, and Global Schools programs, by highlighting projects completed by schools in previous editions, while introducing new participants to the core principles of these programs.

The workshops will also be an opportunity to share updates on the EDD programs, including:

  • Integration of Artificial Intelligence as a working tool within the video category of the YRE competition, enabling participants to become familiar with new technologies and use them innovatively in their creations.
  • Strengthening the international twinning project, with a particular focus on South-South cooperation for the Eco-Schools program, to foster exchange and best practices between Eco-Schools and educational communities in the Global South.
  • The addition of cross-cutting themes, such as sports, cultural heritage, and topics related to biodiversity and the ocean literacy, to expand the scope of the programs and address key aspects of Education for Sustainable Development.

The first day of the workshops is dedicated to introductive sessions for students from public and private schools newly enrolled in the Eco-Schools program. The second day focuses on Moroccan youth, through interactive workshops for the Young Reporters for the Environment. On this day, the winners of the 22nd edition of the YRE competition, along with their mentors, will also be awarded. The sessions conclude with the Green Flag Ceremony, which honors schools that have shown exemplary commitment to the environment over the course of the three years.

In this edition, the Foundation emphasizes pedagogical innovation, introducing interactive activities adapted to each age group of participants and focusing on the presentation of new educational tools developed by the Foundation.

For the Young Reporters for the Environment, practical workshops will be organized around the YRE 2024-2025 competition theme, accompanied by specialized workshops in written, photographic, and videos reports, led by experts in the field.

Thus, the 2024-2025 edition will place a strong emphasis on innovation, motivation, and sharing experiences, creating a conducive environment for constructive exchanges between all stakeholders. These workshops aim to enhance the impact of our programs both nationally and internationally, fully aligned with the Ministry of National Education’s 2022-2026 roadmap, “For an Educational Renaissance.”
