Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa presents the 2023 flagship initiatives to the Board of Directors

Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa presents the 2023 flagship initiatives to the Board of Directors

Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa chaired Tuesday May 21st, 2024, the Board of Directors of the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection, in the presence of the Board members.

In Her address, Her Royal Highness highlighted the main achievements of the year 2023.

Her Royal Highness recalled, in particular, Her sustained commitment to African youth through the African Youth Climate Hub (AYCH) initiative in Her speech at the opening of the first annual High-Level Meeting of the «Green Education Partnership », organized by UNESCO and the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Education, on the sidelines of COP28. Her speech emphasized the importance of sharing data equitably with the countries of the South and reiterated the call for tangible action to reduce the digital divide on the African continent.

Reaffirming Her role as Patron of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (the Ocean Decade Alliance), an initiative headed by UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC-UNESCO) Her Royal Highness announced the launch of several projects by Her Foundation, notably at the Third Foundations Dialogue meeting held in Monaco in June 2023. These projects, which complement the programs already in place for many years, such as the « Clean Beaches » program, to which the « Lalla Hasnaa Sustainable Coastline Trophies » and the « Bharblaplastic » operation have been added, aim to support the community of African university students in promoting knowledge about the oceans. In collaboration with the Hassan II International Center for Environmental Training, these projects have resulted in the creation of training resources, mainly online, to be used as part of the Ocean Decade.

The Foundation’s commitment to decarbonizing the national economy was also a key point of Her speech. Her Royal Highness referred to the training provided to partner companies in the use of the carbon footprint calculation tool to measure their emissions, as well as the climate finance training for local authorities.

The highlight of the intervention of Her Royal Highness’ speech was the announcement to the Board members of the inauguration of the Lahboul historical Park in Meknes, a rehabilitation project carried out in collaboration with various Foundation partners.

Her Royal Highness concluded Her speech by warmly thanking all partners for their continued support and unwavering commitment to the environmental initiatives undertaken by the Foundation, thus contributing to a more sustainable and well-balanced future.

The Board of Directors approved the financial statements, following the opinion of the Statutory Auditor, who certified that the summary financial statements are true and fair and give, in all significant respects, a true and fair view of the results of operations for the years 2022 and 2023.
