HER ROYAL HIGHNESS THE PRINCESS LALLA HASNAA, PRESIDENT OF MOHAMMED VI FOUNDATION FOR THE PROTECTION OF ENVIRONMENT HAS CHAIRED, THURSDAY JUNE 4TH, 2009 IN RABAT THE CEREMONY OF THE GREEN FLAG HANDOVER TO THE 9 ECO-SCHOOLS WINNERS OF THE LABEL AS PART OF THE “ECO-SCHOOLS” PROGRAM

 

Her Royal Highness the Princess Lalla Hasnaa, President of Mohammed VI Foundation for the Protection of Environment has chaired, Thursday June 4th, 2009 in Rabat the ceremony of the Green Flag handover to the 9 Eco-Schools winners of the label as part of the “Eco-Schools” program.

On that occasion, the pupils, members of the Eco-schools program, have presented a play in which they have pointed up the initiatives as eco-actions and awareness rising to environment preservation.

Her Royal Highness has handed over the Green Flags to the first schools winners of the label in Morocco: School Unit of the Popular Bank Foundation – Tangier; School Unit of the Popular Bank Foundation – Agadir: IPSE Khouribga; IPSE Youssoufia; IPSE Benguerir; S.O.S Herman Gmeiner Ait Ourir – S.O.S Herman Gmeiner Imzouren; Dar Essalam El Hassania Rabat; Rokaya Bent Rassoul Salé.

The Green Flag rewards the schools having succeeded in treating and bringing adequate solutions to the considered themes “Water-Energy and Wastes”.

Her Royal Highness has also handed over encouragement certificates to eight establishments as a motivation for getting the Green Flag in the future editions.

The strong involvement of the Foundation’s partners (the Ministry of National Education, OCP, CDG Foundation, Morocco Highways, Cooper Morocco, BCP…) has allowed the setting up of the program that concerns about 9000 students for the year 2008-2009 with a goal of about 2 millions for the season 2009/2010. The national schools are among the 27.000 Eco-Schools distributed over more than 46 countries.

Her Royal Highness has visited the exhibition of works dedicated to wastes sorting and recycling and carried out by the Eco-Schools.

As a reminder, the Eco-Schools program encourages all the concerned parties of the school and in particular the pupils to get involved in an optimization approach of wastes management, water and energy use. A mean to introduce the notion of the sustainable development to our youngest citizens.
