Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa, President of the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection chaired Saturday, April 28, 2012 at the National Library of Morocco in Rabat the ceremony to celebrate 10 years of the program “Young Reporters for the Environment “.
Alongside this celebration, a participatory forum was organized by the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection which is behind this project.
The Forum, under the theme: “Education and Awareness for Responsible Consumption: My Reason for Action” is part of many projects and initiatives undertaken by the Foundation to contribute to the mobilization of all around environmental issues.
This meeting regrouped together winners of the JRE since its launch there is ten years, teachers, media representatives and civil society, professional associations and representatives of private and public sectors.
The purpose of this meeting is to educate and awareness young people to adopt responsible consumption patterns and to advocate for a green economy devoted to environmental protection.
At the morning, all stakeholders were able to discuss of the key roles of different sectors in the awareness and education on responsible consumption and production.
Recommendations to promote responsible consumption and production have been defined at the end of the forum and are listed and available on the Foundation website www.fm6e.org.
Furthermore, Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa said in her speech that the organization of this Forum is a key step for Morocco’s participation at the Earth Summit Rio +20, to the extent that the subject is a discussion position itself.
Her Royal Highness also explained that the radiation of the JRE has an incentive effect and encouraging to the extent that it consolidates and generalizes the organization of the competition at the regional level while placing high school students and teachers at the heart of the concerns of all stakeholders, especially elected officials and local authorities.
Her Royal Highness has supported the implementation of many programs of environmental education through an opening of the Foundation for International and committed to successful partnerships including with UNESCO, ISESCO and the FEE.
Organization in Marrakesh, next year, the 7th World Congress on Environmental Education, under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, is a natural extension of efforts by the Foundation. And “Morocco will be the first Arab and Islamic to have the honor to host this event in June 2013,” said Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa.
Finally, Her Royal Highness stressed capacity building of actors involved in the program, especially journalists who play a role in information dissemination and popularization of good environmental practices.
In this sense, Her Royal Highness announced the establishment, by the Foundation, a new project in partnership with the International Union for Conservation of Nature, which includes Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia and aim to strengthen the capacities of young communication professionals through e-learning platform for an exchange between participants and the acquisition of new skills including journalistic and environmental character.
The official ceremony gave birth to a new partnership convention between the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection and the Ministry of National Education.
The objective of this convention is to involve Young Reporters for Environment program in sustainability, continuity and professionalism insuring the adhesion of different stakeholders.
