This is part of Her Royal Highness’s guidance that is based on environmental awareness and education as a strategic priority for the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection.

In particular, environmental awareness and education aim for school involvement to educate children in environmental issues and challenges. Whenever possible, these actions accompany projects to rehabilitate school facilities (renewable energy, water and energy savings, trees planting, etc.).

It aims to promote environmental education and sustainable development through active participation of students in schools in order to strengthen ecological behavior and promote the sustainable management of natural resources.

The workshop involves 12 schools in the Ouarzazate and Tinghir provinces and focuses on topics such as the Eco-Schools process, the role of educational stakeholders in the implementation of the Eco-Schools program, and the presentation solar electrification project for rural schools, which is part of the voluntary carbon offset program.

The Eco-Schools program was launched internationally by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), which the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection joined In July 2002. The program is conducted in Morocco in partnership with the Ministry of Education through a partnership agreement signed on April 24, 2010 during the Earth Day celebration.

Similarly, in April 2009 the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection launched the voluntary carbon offset program Morocco to participate in climate change mitigation. It aims to encourage public and private operators and citizens to reduce and offset their greenhouse gases emissions by funding projects for energy conservation, energy efficiency, renewable energy and carbon sequestration.

This program, open to any public or private institution, is currently conducted in partnership with the Caisse de Dépôt et de Gestion, Omnium Nord Africain, National Electricity Office (ONE), National Office of Potable Water (ONEP), Groupe des Banques Centrales Populaires and Agence de l’Oriental.
