The Mohammed VI Foundation for the Protection of the Environment, under the effective presidency of Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa, reaffirms its commitment to education for sustainable development by organizing, in collaboration with the Ministry of National Education, Preschool, and Sports, the National Workshop for the training and capacity building of regional and provincial coordinators of sustainable development education programs, on October 31 and November 1, 2024, at the Hassan II International Training Center for the Environment.
Under the theme “Innovation and Digitalization: Inspiring Change in Education for Sustainable Development,” this event mobilized 12 regional coordinators, 82 provincial coordinators, and 20 jury members from the Eco-Schools and Young Reporters for the Environment (JRE) programs, representing the 12 regions of the Kingdom. The aim was to strengthen the commitment of the educational community so that students and teachers become agents of change within Moroccan society.
With the support of the Foundation’s national and international partners, including the Ministry of National Education, the Moroccan Preschool Foundation (FMPS), the Agency for Digital Development (ADD), UNESCO, and UNDP, this workshop offered interactive sessions led by experts in team management, digitalization, and new technologies. A particular emphasis was placed on integrating artificial intelligence into environmental education and the importance of early awareness, starting from preschool, to instill sustainable development values in young generations. These sessions aimed to revitalize the programs and provide participants with practical tools to better manage and promote Eco-Schools and Young Reporters for the Environment initiatives in their institutions.
Through this meeting, the Foundation seeks to enhance the impact of its educational programs and inject new momentum into education for sustainable development in Morocco. The workshop also allowed participants to share their experiences and collaborate to develop a clear roadmap for the future.
The national workshop concluded with a ceremony dedicated to the restitution of the Solid’Art Youth project: Eco-Creative Resilience. This project, born in response to last year’s earthquake, promotes collaborative artistic creation on waste management. During this ceremony, a National Mural was unveiled, consisting of works created by eco-schools from the 12 regional academies all over the school year 2023-2024, highlighting the commitment of young people to a sustainable future and celebrating the cultural diversity of the Kingdom.
The Mohammed VI Foundation for the Protection of the Environment is committed to continuing its efforts for education for sustainable development, in alignment with the Ministry of National Education’s roadmap “For an Educational Renaissance” 2022-2026. This national workshop is a crucial step towards achieving this goal.
