
On the sidelines of the 24th Meeting of the Parties to the Barcelona Convention, which is being held in Cairo on December 4, 2025 (13:00–13:30, Malachite I+II, 2nd floor), the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection is organizing a dynamic and committed side event: ” Science, Education and Cooperation for a Resilient Mediterranean “, in co-organization with the Department of Sustainable Development of the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development of the Kingdom of Morocco.

Context:
The side event “Science, Education and Cooperation for a Resilient Mediterranean” will spotlight regional and African efforts to address pressing challenges in the Mediterranean Sea including plastic pollution, declining water quality, and the impacts of climate change while strengthening ocean science, education, and capacity building. Organized under the leadership of the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection, in partnership with the Department of Sustainable Development _ Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Kingdom of Morocco, the event reflects a sustained commitment to marine conservation, environmental education, and inclusive governance.
The session will convene policymakers, scientists, educators, youth representatives, and other African and Mediterranean stakeholders to present collaborative actions and scalable solutions that enhance marine resilience, foster knowledge exchange, and promote inclusive cooperation.
By reinforcing regional partnerships and building local capacities, the event aims to elevate Africa’s role as a catalyst for ocean conservation and an incubator of transformative initiatives across the Mediterranean and beyond.
