This workshop is among the activities that Her Royal Highness The Princess Lalla Hasnaa gives a particular interest to, as it aims to promote environmental education and sustainable development through personal experience and raising young citizens’ awareness.
The workshop will involve 36 schools in the Guelmim-Smara Region and will focus on topics such as an assessment of the Eco-Schools program, and the promotion of renewable energy in rural schools.
The material provided will enable educators to increase awareness and educate children on alternatives to current practices, in order to reduce pressures on the environment while increasing the comfort level.
Training, outreach and communication will also accompany these actions, in order to gradually develop an overview of the use of renewable energy.
In July 2002, the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection joined the Eco-Schools program, an international program initiated by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). Eco-Schools is implemented in Morocco in partnership with the Ministry of Education, through an agreement signed on April 24, 2010 on the occasion of the Earth Day celebration. This program, based on a participatory approach and inspired by the youth educators’ educational component, offers five areas of work: waste management, water conservation, energy conservation, food, and biodiversity.
