Participation in the celebration of World Wetlands Day

On February 12, 2025, the National Water and Forests Agency (ANEF) celebrated World Wetlands Day in Rabat, bringing together key stakeholders involved in biodiversity conservation. The Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection played an essential role in this event, highlighting its crucial contribution to raising awareness about wetland protection, particularly through its educational programs.

During its intervention in the “Role of CSOs” panel, the Foundation presented its ongoing efforts to promote wetland conservation, especially through tools and educational activities specifically designed to raise awareness among the public, particularly younger generations. These tools, such as interactive materials and playful activities, aim to make the issues of biodiversity more accessible and encourage responsible behaviors towards aquatic ecosystems. The Foundation emphasized the importance of environmental education as a key driver for sustainable change.

A significant highlight of the event was the presentation of the Blue Flag certification for Lake Aguelmam in 2024, as part of the Foundation’s Clean Beaches program, marking a first for the Kingdom. This distinction underscores the Foundation’s commitment to the valorization and protection of wetlands, offering a concrete model for sustainable management.

Additionally, the Lalla Hasnaa Sustainable Coastline Awards, which reward exemplary initiatives for wetland and coastal protection, were also presented, demonstrating the direct impact of collective efforts in preserving these fragile ecosystems.

This day provided a valuable opportunity to strengthen synergies among various institutional, associative, and financial partners, towards a shared future focused on the conservation and enhancement of wetlands in Morocco.
