During this visit, various scientific and technical explanations were provided to Her Royal Highness on the techniques of in- vitro culture, research on micro propagation of the palm tree and the improvement of date production of low market value.

Her Royal Highness also visited the Municipal Nursery of Marrakech, the main supplier of plants meeting the needs of the Program for the Safeguard and Development of the Palm Grove, with regard to planting, i.e. 430,000 plants out of which 210,000 seedlings have already been planted.

Finally, HER ROYAL HIGHNESS PRINCESS LALLA HASNAA wound up her  circuit by the visit of a site where trees are to be planted   in the Palm Grove circuit of Marrakech .

As a reminder, on 19 March 2007, the Program for the Safeguard and Development of the Marrakech Palm Grove was launched during a ceremony at which HER ROYAL HIGHNESS PRINCESS LALLA HASNAA, Chairperson of the Fondation Mohammed VI pour la Protection de l’Environnement, read a Royal message addressed to the participants.

 

Two years after its official launch, the program, through the involvement of all partners, has achieved significant results including:

– Planting of 210 000 plants out of 430 000 to be planted over 10 years, i.e. approximately 50% of the projected number;
–    Launch of the oases eco-museum studies;
–    Implementation of awareness raising and environmental education, particularly in partnership with the “Observatoire de la Palmeraie”.association.
