Outings following the conferences

After four days filled with plenary sessions, side events, discussions, meetings and exhibitions, WEEC 2013 will finish with outings that enable the hands-on discovery of environmental achievements in Marrakech and understanding of how the environment is protected in the region.

Several outings are organized this Friday for the participants, including a tour of the Marrakech wastewater treatment plant and a visit to the Marrakech palm grove.

The Marrakech wastewater treatment plant, in addition to upstream efforts for surface water supply, has allowed the city to have a positive water cycle: Marrakech does not draw from groundwater for its drinking water needs, it treats wastewater before discharge, and has begun to irrigate golf courses from treated wastewater.

Two documents provide an update on these developments:

• Marrakech implements an ecological solution to irrigate its golf courses

• The city of Marrakech, an exemplary water management model

A visit is planned to the palm grove, for which the protection plan is a flagship program of the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection. The proposed circuit will enable aware-raising of the actions developed to protect this iconic city heritage: replanting, irrigation, pedestrian trail, surveillance by a horseback brigade, etc. It also enables the sampling of the delights of this beautiful site, which is the only natural green space in Marrakech.

A document provides an overview of the protection program:
