Young Reporters for the Environment program : Workshop training and education for sustainable development Wednesday, October 27, 2010 in Nador the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection

As part of its partnership with the Ministry of National Education, the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection, chaired by Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa, in collaboration with its partners and with the support of the French Global Environment Facility and the French Development Agency, organized a workshop to launch the Young Reporters for the Environment for young high school students from the Nador Province.

Each group involved defined its own reporting project on a local environmental issue, in order to communicate information to a local audience.

The 9th edition of the Young Reporters for the Environment was evidence of students’ enthusiasm for the program. Nearly 2,000 students from 16 regional districts participated with 129 written reports and 625 photographs.

Held on Wednesday, October 27, 2010 in Nador, this workshop is among the actions that Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa gives special interest to for the promotion of environmental education and sustainable development, through personal experience and by awakening the youth’s civic consciousness.

The workshop will involve 20 schools in the Nador Province and will focus on topics such as the proper approach for gathering field information and formatting content, as well as different journalistic techniques to protect the environment.

Each year the national awards ceremony to recognize the winners closes the program. The national jury-awarded work is subsequently sent to the EEF in Paris to compete at the European level. Since 2003, Morocco's participation has received awards each year.

After becoming a member of the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) in July 2002, the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection decided to implement the Young Reporters for the Environment program in Morocco, in partnership with the Ministry of Education. This program is an international network of teachers and students who investigate a topic related to their surroundings (waste, water, energy, agriculture, cities, coastlines, biodiversity etc), under the supervision of their professors.
