Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa has introduced a new concept, which is the cyber park, associating nature with new technologies. Hence, the park has been renovated with great respect to the existing, mixing tradition with modernity.
Located in the center of Marrakech, around the edge of Mohammed V Avenue, in front of the City Hotel, near Jemaa El Fna Square, this garden benefits from an exceptional position. Immense, with its eight hectares, largely open on the city, its conditions require an important renovation.
Thus, When Mohammed VI Foundation for the Protection of Environment was looking for a sponsor, Maroc Telecom did not hesitate responding to this request. As Abdeslam Ahizoune, President of Maroc Telecom’s Executive Board, explains: “we are proud to be associated to this work of Mohammed VI Foundation for the Protection of Environment and its President Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa. Maroc Telecom adheres to this work from its position as a citizenship company, besides the fact that environment is a part of the sphere of our intervention. We have already worked in Maâmora forest, we are engaged since years ago in the operation Clean Beaches. To renovate a garden is an extension of our actions, even if it is the first time for us”.
Architects and landscape architects are working since 2002. Their intervention comes within a clear willingness : to revive the authentic arsat. This garden is in fact an element of our Moroccan patrimony. Its founder, in the XVIII century, is the third son of the Sultan Sidi Muhammad B. Abdallah, Moulay Abdeslam, a diplomat and cultured person. The immense land that he had founded was transformed into a public garden in the beginning of the 20th century.
Today, this park called Arsat Moulay Abdeslam, is a place for a good walk, an animated space to discover new information technologies. With its cyber space, multimedia terminals and an exhibition space, it benefits from the latest telecommunication technologies: optical fibres, WIFI, ADSL. The multimedia terminals allow to be connected with internet, to send e-mails and faxes, to find all information on the park, its history and its plants. Such a rich data provides the Marrakchi people as well as tourists with information about the city and its topicality.
Besides Maroc Telecom 14 companies have also supported this project: Alcatel Telecom, Ericsson, Fujitsu Siemens, Hewlett Packard Maroc, IB Maroc, IBM Maroc, Motorola, IPM, Munisys, Nokia, Philips, Samsung , Siemens, Sonny Ericsson and IPM Group.
