Marrakech Sustainable City: An initiative for 650 of the youth affected by the earthquake

The Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection, in collaboration with the Ministry of National Education, Preschool, and Sports, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the Mediation Center for Sciences affiliated to The Mohammed V University, organize an event on 20th and 21st November 2023, at The Mohammed VI for the Water Civilization Museum in Marrakech – Aman, under the theme “Marrakech Sustainable City.”

This initiative aligns with the ecological transition dynamics of the city and aims to provide support to over 600 middle and high school students from Al Haouz region directly affected by the recent earthquake and relocated to internships in the city of Marrakech.

The program includes a series of interactive and educational workshops, offering the young participants and their supervisors a detailed insight into the “Young Reporters for Environment ” and “Safegarding and development of The Marrakech palm grove” programs led by the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection, along with the “Marrakech Sustainable City” program led by the UNDP. Additionally, workshops are programmed with a main focus on robotics, using educational games, and virtual reality, guided by experts. The event features entertaining activities and a visit to the Museum of Water, hosting the event.

The Foundation and its partners aim by this series of activities to introduce the concepts of sustainable development education in a playful way through this comprehensive program, tailored to the target audience, in order to raise awareness among the youth about crucial environmental issues. All activities are designed to create a conducive atmosphere for positive expression, aiming to provide comfort to the youth and restore a sense of normality and stability, despite the challenges they have faced.
