The Blue Flag International Congress was held from 2nd to the 3rd November in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, at the Canary Islands Foraine Institution (INFECAR), and on Novembre 4 th at Las Canteras beach.
This Congress was organized by the Association for Environmental and Consumer Education (ADEAC), member of the FEE and coordinator of the «Blue Flag» label in Spain, in partnership with the Town Hall of Las Palmas de Gran Canarias, the Tourism Council and INFECAR.
The Blue Flag International Congress, entitled «Sustainable Development, Health and Safety», aroused great interest and reached the 200 participants of different autonomous communities of Spain and participants of countries like Colombia, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Chile and Morocco.
The Congress aims to share experiences in the sustainable management of the beaches and coastlines. Panels of experts, representatives of public administrations, educational institutions and private companies and civil society took place on the 2nd and 3rd November.
The Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection participated on Thursday 3rd November 2022, in the panel on «Environmental Education», and aimed to present the Foundation and its academic arm, the Hassan II nd Center for Environmental training. It also focused on presenting the Foundation’s multi-stakeholder approach to awareness raising and education on sustainable development based on educational programs (Eco Schools, Young reporters for the environment, Global School, African Green Universities Youth Educational Network). In addition, the presentation has shown the synergy between these educational programs and the the safeguarding and protection of beaches and coastlines programs (Clean beaches and Blue Flag). This approach was illustrated by the #b7arblaplastic 2022 (Beaches without Plastic) Operation and the entire co-construction process with the Foundation’s partners and stakeholders.
The Congress moved on Friday 4 November to the beach of Las Canteras, where it was scheduled (from 9:00 to 1:30 pm) part-time training workshops: First aid, Support for disabled people, and environmental education activities.
