The Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection at the 12th WEEC, in Abu Dhabi

The Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection attends the 12th edition of the World Environmental Education Congress (WEEC), held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, from January 29 to February 2, 2024.

 This event stands as a pioneering initiative on a global scale in the field of environmental education, , bringing together experts in environmental education from 73 countries to provide a unique platform for the exchange and review of the best methods, experiences, and research related to environmental education approaches and outcomes under this year’s theme “Connecting People, Creating Tomorrow”.

As a member of the Scientific Committee, the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection actively and consistently participates in this international conference since 2003, reaffirming its long-term commitment to environmental education, which constitutes a fundamental and essential pillar in its mission.

During this edition, the Foundation presents its initiatives through six interventions focused on environmental education programs:

– January 30th

  • Outdoor public awareness: Implementation of Educational Paths through idea contests with architecture students.

-January 31st:

  • Use of digital tools for environmental awareness: The case of the Ana Boundif mobile application;
  • The Foundation and its Center in action for preschool integration through the Eco Schools program and the developed educational tools;
  • Outdoor activities at the Hassan II International Center for Environmental Training.

-February 1st:

  • Highlighting the contributions of Young Reporters for the Environment, working on the theme of environmental pollution;
  • Enhancing the comprehension of Global Schools program concepts in Morocco, through games and innovation.

In line with the Foundation’s commitment  with youth, and following their involvement at the 11th edition held in Prague in 2022; the Foundation with the support of the Ministry of National Education Preschool and Sports, supported two Young Reporters for the Environment, aged 16 to 18 and their supervisor, to  attend the WEEC 12th edition held in Abu Dhabi and to participate and be engaged in the Youth Environmental Education Congress (YEEC).

Furthermore, it is essential to remind that the Kingdom of Morocco was the first Arab country to host the World Environmental Education Congress in its seventh edition in 2013 in Marrakech, under the auspices of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa presided over the opening ceremony, during which she issued the Marrakech Call, urging greater involvement from relevant entities and key stakeholders, as well as the establishment of tools to enhance the exchange of experiences in the field of environmental education.
